CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR

Family. Food. Fun.

The holiday season is my favorite time of the year. It brings all of our loved ones under one roof and around a dinner table where we can feast to our hearts’ content, crack jokes and play catch-up. There’s no denying food is a great way to bring people together and this year it’s going to be amazing having everyone under one roof celebrating and being merry.

Ever since I moved to Toronto, I have been adding one or two new pieces of Christmas decor to my collection every year. This year, I wanted to create the perfect Hallmark Christmas home for my twins so I went full out in decorating our home and created the cutest area for them to hang out in and play with their toys.

To create the perfect little corner that’s gate free, I took the twins’ tepee from their nursery and placed it across from the Christmas tree so they can watch the tree twinkle while they play with their new toys from Decors Veronneau. I stuffed the back of the tepee with their favorite pillows so they can lie down on them while they play with their toys (or in Reyha’s case, lie down while she peeks out of the back window).

This year, we got our very first Christmas tree. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I originally picked up a 7.5 ft tree. I used the poll feature on Instagram and more than 600 of you responded back and recommended that I upgrade to a 9-ft tree (Thank you!). You were right, the 9-ft tree looks absolutely perfect (and the price point for the tree was even better!!!).  After the tree was set up, I went and placed our very first (and at that time, only) Christmas ornament – the Tardis Ring box. This ornament is incredibly special because that’s the box my husband proposed to me with. Every year, I have placed this ring box in a glass cabinet as part of my Christmas decor. This year, it finally found a home on our tree.

You all know I have a soft heart when it comes to helping charities. 2017 was a special year where I opened up on the various initiatives I have been working on for the last 14 years. I have helped various villages build wells so they have access to clean running water, construct dwellings and communal halls for them to gather around, assisted family run charitable organizations helping various villages get access to vaccinations, books, clothing and even food. Before we started family planning, I went to see a few of these places in person to witness if there was anything more they needed. Why am I sharing this with you? Well the very first ornaments I got for my tree this year were from West Elm and they are all part of their fair trade initiative. I mean seriously, check out how cute the ornaments are – the cute turtle, the adorable dog, the soft bunny and this little cute penguin. I also picked up these two cute giraffes  (because the twins have the jumbo version of them in their nursery). After I got these two cute giraffes (also from West Elm and at 50% off), I went on a splurge on buying ornaments in various shades of gold and white.

When I was a kid, I dreamed of having a train set going around my very own Christmas tree. Fast forward a few years later,  and now I have a Christmas tree complete with the Polar Express.

On my mantle, I originally planned on getting fresh garlands to decorate the fireplace….but then I went to HomeSense and fell in love with this beautiful garland that’s pre-decorated and pre-lit (win-win). Because my mantle is quite wide and I wanted to have some of it dangling on the sides, I picked up two and stacked them on top of each other. I added some candles in between (to hide where both garlands were intertwined) and voila! I have to say the final results on the mantle turned out better than I imagined.

I am going to make a confession – we never use our fireplace in the living room. Correction – we only used our fireplace for the first three months after the twins were born (to help keep them warm). Outside that, I have never used my fireplace and I don’t think we will plan on using it during the holidays. So to fill the space, I created the cutest Christmas village in front of it.

For someone who has never decorated their home for the Holidays, I have to give myself a huge pat on the back for putting this whole room together within 7-days. I was so happy with the results that I  directed my attention to our staircase and decorated it in the same green and gold theme.
