FIRST CHRISTMAS

Let me be the first to say this – decorating your home for the holidays is not easy.

Okay, I admit there are some aspects that can be fun (like dancing to Michael Buble’s Christmas songs while hanging my favorite ornaments on the tree), but the process to get to that moment is stressful. You have to figure out if you want a real tree or an artificial one, shortly followed by figuring out how tall of a tree you want. Once you have that sorted out, you’ve gotta deal with another problem – how to bring the tree home without damaging your vehicle. On top of that, there is the process of decorating the tree. After you have figured that part out, then comes the really tricky part – choosing a color scheme to go with and determining what parts of the room you want to decorate.

This is the first Christmas for my twins and I wanted to go all out with decorating the living room and dining area. I also wanted to create a little special area in the room for the twins so they could crawl around freely. When I started planning (via Pinterest) about how I would like to stage my home for the holidays, I was overwhelmed. A tree alone wasn’t going to be enough. I also needed to decorate my dining table so that it would compliment the house, yet be elegant and festive at the same time.

I am so lucky to have partnered with Decors Veronneau, a Montreal based company that specializes in artificial plants and decor of all kinds because they took the guesswork out of the processing regarding what color palette I should approach for my home. Oh, and by the way their website is decoration goals! Seriously they have everything you could possibly need to get your home set up stress-free. Like this beautifully elegant and chic, yet festive, centerpiece they created for my dining table.

One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is hosting my annual Christmas Eve dinner. Even when I was 34 weeks pregnant last year, nothing was going to stop me from having my family under one roof for our annual Christmas Eve dinner. Every year, I make a sad attempt at decorating my dining table. With Decors Veronneau, I can finally add a touch of sparkle to my holidays and set the perfect table for my family. It all starts with this custom designed centerpiece made of artificial plants and florals that looks even better than the real thing. With this being my main focal point, I brought in elements of white and gold for each table setting.  I used gold flatware to complement the gold pear and apples in the centerpiece, and kept the plates and linen white to go with the snow on the ghost wood. To break the layers of white, I added the gold feather leaf on top of the napkin and used the plate as a frame. By the way, can we just admire what a statement worthy centerpiece this is! Seriously, the texture and combination of ghost wood, florals, snow and fruit ornaments comes together to make one heck of an impressive presentation piece for all the right reason.

To add a little color, I found this fun idea about how to serve drinks to our guests. Since I had a whole bunch of extra clear ornaments, why not use them to create the perfect cocktail.

Because this is our first Christmas with the twins, I wanted to create a cute little area for them to play around in. I brought down their tepee because they love to sit inside it and play peek-a-boo through the back window. Because we decorated our tree in white with hints of gold, they gave us these cute creatures to surround their tepee. Zayn actually loves to pet the dog (as though it’s a real dog) and Reyha loves to cuddle with the teddy bear.

To help fill in the area between their tepee and the Christmas tree, I placed this cute moose and white fox as though they were standing guard. I’ll admit, I was originally planning on putting both animals in the tepee, but after the horse ended up in my son’s mouth (literally, he was sucking on the mane) I couldn’t risk it so I placed it outside for safe keeping. Plus, I plan on using both the moose and white fox next year.

When I first started the process of decorating my living room and dining room, I will admit I was overwhelmed and had no clue where to start (beyond the tree). But after I had clear picture of what my tablescape would look like, thanks to the centerpiece from Decors Veronneau, everything started to slowly fall into place. I used the colors in the centerpiece and brought them into the living room and the tepee area. Together, we created the perfect room for the twins to play around in with their new favorite toys, and the most elegant table setting for our guests to feel welcomed and loved when they celebrate the holidays with us.

Wow this is so beautiful! I actually haven’t ever decorated my house before because we’ve never celebrated Eid properly. So I’m hoping this year we’ll start with Eid and then Christmas which is ultimately one of my husband and I’s favourite holiday. We got married on Xmas day! Great post! I will definitely keep them in mind.
