HELLO TO 2018

Holiday LookIt’s been a few days since I had the best Christmas day with my family, and it just dawned on me that my babies are less than a month away from celebrating their first birthday. What also dawned on me is that 2017 is over, a year where so many amazing things happened and something tells me 2018 is going to be a year filled with many endless and wonderful possibilities.

2017 was an amazing, and by far my favorite year. It was the year I had my little gloworms. I saw their faces light up when they recognized my face and voice, heard their first words transitioning from cooing to mama and dada (I still become a complete mushball whenever they say those words). I was there when they discovered their arms and legs, and when they started to learn how to crawl. It’s because of them, that I pivoted in a new direction on content I would showcase on my platform and social media accounts. The result – I am loving it, as well as the new partnerships and relationships I formed along the way.

I am not big on making resolutions – probably because I only end up keeping half of them. Instead I focus on high level goals that will result in personal growth.

Health
It’s no secret that I love to cook. I also love to eat. My husband and I eat out quite frequently and when we travel, we are always in search of restaurants that are a huge hit with the locals. One thing we are not good at is watching our diet and trying to be healthy. Sure I work out 2-3 times a week (thanks to a goal I made in 2015) but that’s not enough. So for 2018, my goal is to clean up what I put in my body and increase the frequency of my workouts to at least 4-5 times a week.

Another goal I am making is to start working out at home. During my partnership with Marshalls, I stumbled upon a few items that would help me keep me in shape and ready until my next workout session at my neighborhood Pilates studio.

Charity
For the last 14 years, I have supported various charities. This year I want to focus on assisting charities within Ontario and two special projects that I hope my twins can continue on when the time is right.

Finance
For most of my adult life, I have lived and breathed my parents’ rule of thumb when it comes to finance. Live off 40% of your income, and save 60%. It’s because of what they taught me, that I have been independent and debt free.

This year I am going to take ownership of my finances and continue to learn how to make my savings grow.

Travel
Because of my new twins, 2017 is the first year I only traveled once. What this taught me is how much I miss exploring the world, immersing myself in different cultures, eating local specialties, and making friends far from home. So this year, we are going to travel more and makeup for the fact that we only did one trip in 2017.

For this goal, I have already picked out dates and locations we plan on travelling to. My goal is to enjoy what each city has to offer without feeling rushed.

Read
I love to read! It’s my favorite past time. You can find me lost in a book while I’m soaking in a tub, while getting some me time when the twins are asleep, while hiding in a coffee shop with a page turner I just picked up around the corner, or even while I’m reading a children’s book to my twins while we huddle either on the couch or under their tepee. I read, on average, about 10 books a year (no joke), and most of those books are about self development with the odd few guilty pleasures. My goal is to start expanding the genres I read and increase the number of books. I want to also increase the number of books I read to my twins (I already read to them once a day…when they are not trying to eat their books). For 2018, I want to introduce them to Fairy Tales and get some of my own children’s books shipped over from my parents’ place in Vancouver so I can start reading those to them too.

My other goal is to take my favorite quotes from books, and frame and mount them in my office so I can be constantly inspired.

Clean
This is one goal I am putting on the list because it’s the one thing I am not very good at – keeping my office and closet clean.

For some insane reason, I have no trouble keeping the rest of my house clean but the closet and my office never make it on the list.  I can’t tell you how many times I have cleaned both my office and closet, but somehow it miraculously gets dirty the same day I finished cleaning the space. So my goal for 2018 is to always keep both of these rooms clean, constantly.

Organize
Before I had my twins, I was incredibly organized. I used my Google Calendar and my desk calendar religiously so that nothing fell through the cracks. Fast forward to 2017 and things were starting to slip up. Now I’m not going to make excuses (because excuses are a sign of failure in my books), but I’ve learned to always be aware of Murphy’s Law and be prepared for it. So my goal for 2018 is to always plan for the worst and stay on top of everything.

To kick start this, I’m going to start creating a section on simple and easy to do DIYs that will help me achieve this.

So there you go, my goals for 2018. What are your goals for the new year? Are you a resolution kind of person or are you in to setting goals? Love to know your thoughts in the comments below.

Happy New Year! I love how organised and clear your 2018 intentions are. Just made me realise how I need to properly clarify my own goals for the year.
