Invest in your skin care, it’s going to be with you for a very long time
A few weeks ago, I was with a group of close friends discussing my plans for getting away from the city to recharge and celebrate my post-birthday. This will be my second birthday trip and being the fact that both my husband and I have entered this new age group together, I was immediately flooded with questions on “What skin care products I use?”, “What brands I recommend?”, “How long have I have been using them?”.
I have to admit, I NEVER really cared about skin care until I was around 21 years of age. I remember I went for my very first facial at this beautiful spa and the esthetician commented on how my skin looked older than my age (she thought I was 35!!!). Truth is, I thought I could get away with using soap and water but having someone comment that my skin looked like I was in my 30’s was exactly what I needed to change and take better care of my skin.
One thing I realized in the past few years is that there isn’t one skincare product you can use every day for the rest of your life. You have to adapt. Your skin goes through all sorts of changes when you expose it to various elements. For example, take my skin care, in the winter time I focus on hydration and in the summer, it’s all about controlling my oily skin. When I travel, I have to take even better care of my skin so I don’t burst any capillaries due to dehydration.
Every now and then, I will be showcasing a list of products I have included in my routine. This will range from hair, skin and body care. Plus don’t be surprised if you see some drug store brand products creep up. Yes, not all beauty products have to be high end.
SKIN ESSENTIALS
In December, my skin went through extreme dehydration due to the constant exposure to hot and cold temperatures. It didn’t take long for me to see fine lines and cracks at the surface. The key to keeping your skin looking youthful is hydration, hydration, hydration. It doesn’t come easy, but having the right set of products help. Here is the four step process I go through every morning to keep my face in check.
Dior Capture Youth (Lift Sculpture) – One of the first steps I take in age-defying skin care is applying a dropper full of this rich blend serum that helps me combat uneven skin tone and elasticity. I apply the serum in an upward motion on my face and cup my eyes with the base of my palm and tap around my orbital bone lightly.
Dior Capture Youth (Glow Booster) – The next step is to apply this serum to help me restore radiance to my skin. One of the things I miss from my pregnancy is having radiant glowing skin, and this serum helps me achieve that by brightening my skin and smoothing the texture at the same time.
Dior Capture Youth (Matte Maximizer) – A good face always has small and minimal pores. Large pores means your skin can easily get clogged with dirt, which results in breakouts (not fun!) To help me control the size of my pores (especially around my nose and chin), a dab a little bit of this pink clay and zinc gluconate serum to help me control the size of pores plus help me get some shine control.
INSTANT HYDRATION
One of my least favourite things to do is drink water. I remember my mother used to always complain that I never drank enough water. I would drink at most 2-3 glasses, a far cry from the 1L I need to keep my skin in check. If I miss a day of drinking water (and indulge only in caffeinated drinks), my skin becomes dull and dry. When you are running from one event to another or hopping into an uber to meet a new client, and you have an affinity for small bags…it’s hard to carry a bottle of water (especially when I always forget it in the back seat). Instead, I found a remedy that’s quick and easy to my lack of drinking water problem. This feather-light intensive moisturizing cream gives you the equivalent of 72 hours of hydration with one application. It leaves my skin feeling soft and looking dewy, plus I love the fact I can apply it on my fingertips to hydrate those tiny cracks around my nails.
BODY CHECK
For the last few months, I have been aggressively working out at getting my body summer ready. But there are times you need a bit of assistance to help you tackle those trouble spots. I was recently introduced to Institut Esthederm Morpho Fitness Slimming Activator Serum and Extra Firming Hydrating Lotion. I call it my dynamic duo! The serum is basically a workout in a tube, I apply it right before I head off to the pilates studio to help my body give it the boost it needs to burn fat PLUS helps prevent the restocking of fat for lasting slimming results. The hydrating lotion is there to keep my skin looking and feeling ideal (perfect after pregnancy).
Which products are you going to try? Do you have any recommendations?
These are really great products dear. I love Clinique moisture surge too. It feels so good and soft on the skin. Really amazing moisturizer.
